I’m lucky enough to be a good friend of JJ Sterling, star of The Quest Series. Since the launch of The Golden Scarab and The Cursed Nile books, he’s become quite well known around the place and is in high demand. It seems that being a kid his age who has been on such great adventures has made him a hit with kids who have read the books (and their parents too).
I guess he’s in between adventures at the moment so he had a little ‘time’ on his hands. He dropped by the other day for a donut and a chat, so I thought it would be a great idea to share what he said. (He’s cool with it. I checked)
A chat with JJ Sterling (Star of The Quest Series)
In your awesome adventures, what is your favourite thing?
How fantastic is time-travel?
Wow, it’s really hard to describe. Being able to travel through time is the awesomest thing I’ve ever done. It beats school, hands down. If I want to know about anything, like how they built the pyramids, or how they invented chocolate, all I need to do is go there and see it.
So far I’ve only travelled back in time, but I’d love to go into the future one day, or maybe to Mars. One of the best things is that when I come back home, it’s like time has stood still. So no one even knows that I’ve been away.
Are you ever worried that you’ll get trapped in another time?
Mmmmm, I’d never really thought of that. So, no, I’m not really worried. It could be fun though.
What is your favourite place that you’ve been?
That’s an easy one too. I love ancient Egypt. Each time we’ve been it’s been awesome. Yeah, it’s been really dangerous at times, but I still love it. I have heaps of great friends there now so I can’t wait to go back.
When you were in Egypt , was there anything there that grossed you out?
Cabbage. Once, when we were on a quest, Sadiki the camel master, cooked us cabbage. I was so hungry that I actually ate it, but I had to hold my nose so I couldn’t smell it – it was pretty gross. It’s probably the only time that I’ve ever missed my mom’s cooking, and that’s saying something.
Oh, another thing that grossed me out….. Camels, they are way stinky. Eerrrgghhh!
Is there anything in ancient Egypt that you don’t like?
That’d have to be the Uberdiles. They’re a really nasty bunch of statues that always chase us and try to kill us. They’re not exactly friendly. I hope we’ve seen the last of them, but I have a feeling they’ll be back.
People say that you always get yourself into tight situations, but always seem to find a way out. How do you manage to escape?
Well, we have been in some pretty crazy situations. It must be luck! Hahah. . Yeah, I guess you could say we’ve always had luck on our side. I hope it doesn’t run out anytime soon.
When we’re in a bind, we have to try to make the best of what’s around at the time, but the Eye of Horus pendant has been such an awesome thing to have. It can do pretty well anything that you imagine.
I know you and your best friend, Linc, are like brothers. What’s your take on Rani?
She’s pretty cool, we’ve become really good friends. I mean she has done heaps of awesome stuff when things haven’t been going too well. She’s so smart as well, she balances out Linc … heheh!
Do you boys keep in contact with her?
Yeah, sure we do. We have the Talismanic Papyrus and we can send messages whenever we want. It’d be great to go visit her one day. If we knew where she lived, that is.
You’ve already told me (secretly) about your next adventure. Is there anything that you can tell people about?
Mmmmm… I can say that it is gonna be totally cool. I mean there is some amazing stuff that will blow people’s socks off. Some of the places we go are just so great and massive.
The Golden Scarab was awesome, The Cursed NIle was awsomer, and the The Fallen Pharaoh is awesomerer.
Thanks for the chat JJ, it’s always great to catch up with you. Take care of yourself in your next adventure, there’s loads of people out there who are your fans and don’t want you getting hurt.
Fans! ….. Haha that’s way funny. Yeah …… I’ll be careful.
Can I have the last donut?
