The Fowl parents and fairy police force decide that enough is enough and the twins are placed under house arrest. But Myles has questions like: Who was tracking the Fowl jet? Why would someone want to blow them out of the sky? What is the bigger picture? These questions must infuriate someone, because Myles is abducted and spirited away from his twin.
Beckett and Lazuli must collaborate to find Myles and rescue him. Their chase will take them across continents, deep underground, and into subacquatic super villain lairs. They will be shot at, covered in spit, and be at the receiving end of some quite nasty dwarf sarcasm.

The adventures of the Fowl Twins continue in this fun-filled second book of the series. Eoin Colfer has another winner here and has well and truly settled back into his beloved world of Artemis Fowl. Myles and Beckett have had their wings clipped after their destruction of the family jet and they’re determined to find any way they can to regain the freedom they once enjoyed. That means finding any way to interpret the new rules to be in their favor. But that’s when their own plotting embroils them into a problem of epic proportions.
When Myles is unexpectedly abducted, we join Beckett and Lazuli on a mission to find him. But because of the new rules they must follow, they need to make do without the technology they’ve come to rely on. As with book 1, Colfer has put together a funny and exciting adventure full of quirkiness, action, and delightful characters. The humor is spot on for the audience and funny to someone such as me who is just a little older. Teamwork is an underlying theme. The differences between the twins is what shines as their greatest strength. It’s a lesson that we’re all different and that doing what we’re good at can compliment the strengths of others around us.
I love how the story moves, the pace is on point and there’s never a dull moment. The baddies in this one are the Horteknut Seven, a band of seven dwarves who are led by Gveld Horteknut and her very loyal second-in-charge Gundred Horteknut. The two main villians have a deep connection, but even that has its own problems that need to be resolved. The rescue of Myles leads Beckett and Lazuli through all sorts of twists and we enjoy plenty of funny moments along the way. The climax has all the thrills and danger we need, and there’s an unexpected twist that I know readers will lap up. The Fowl Twins series has gone from strength to strength, I can’t think of anything in book 2 that would disappoint Artemis fans. Keep an eye out for book 3, which is due later this year.
