The Price of Time – Tim Tigner
Kindle Edition | Released 1 May 2019 | 336 pages
Would your character change … if you had all the money in the world?
And all the time? Would you become a better person? Or worse?
Imagine Agatha Christie meets Michael Crichton in a fast-paced, philosophical mystery thriller.
There’s a secret in Silicon Valley. A discovery. An invention. One so startling and surprisingly sinister that it needs to be kept—at any price.
Tim Tigner takes a step back from his bestselling Kyle Achilles series to introduce Zachary Chase and Skylar Fawkes in a fresh standalone novel that’s bound to keep you glued and guessing. With secluded meetings, sudden disappearances and strange murders; secret agents, skillful assassins and sexy locations; The Price of Time is packed with fast-paced action and first-class intellectual intrigue.
Propelling the thrills and perched at the middle of the mystery is one of humanity’s great questions: Would finding the Fountain of Youth be a blessing? – GOODREADS

The Price of Time is a thriller that explores the impact of choices. It shows how decisions from the past have a huge impact on the future. People change over time and what was once prized can become something of a thorn in one’s side. There’s a lesson here, be careful what you wish for and think hard about the choices you make.
The underlying plot is clever. Far fetched but still plausible enough to believe, or even wish for. We follow two different plot-lines, inherently linked but on separate paths. One about a race to catch a killer that’s finding replacements, the other to catch a killer who is hunting the very reasons replacements are needed.
Sounds intriguing, doesn’t it. I don’t want to be a spoiler and give away too much, so if what I’ve said doesn’t make sense there’s only one way to find out what I mean. Read it 🙂.
Zachary Chase and Skylar Fawkes are new characters in the Tim Tigner universe. Two people brought together in a plot full of murder and intrigue. Zachary is ex CIA, and Skylar is ex Olympic gold, and together I see a partnership that will continue into new books.
I’m a big fan of Tim Tigner books and just seeing his name on the cover has become enough for me to pick up a book. I love the way he writes and find his books are comfortable reads that are easy to follow. That said, I hate to say that early on in this book I did get a little lost. There were so many characters and different plot threads going on at the same time. It was hard to keep switching and understand who was doing what and in which arc it was occurring.
I know that books need to establish characters, story, and setting, but I almost reached the point where I wanted to put it aside for another day. But I knew how much I like TT’s books, so I kept reading. Once the influx of characters and locations calmed and the story began to mature, it did become easier to follow. There was one cliche that I didn’t feel was necessary, but I think the intent was to tick a box on how the characters grow and relate. I’ll leave it up to you to spot what I mean if you read the book.
One thing to mention is that I read an early reader version of this book, so the final published book may well be further refined, making what I mentioned above no longer relevant.
Bottom line is that this book is about murder, intrigue, ethics, and mystery. It does a good job at presenting a complex set of situations in an exciting and engaging package. While it’s not my favorite TT book, it did deliver on all the aspects that his books are known for.
Something that made me smile was the mention of a character reading a book called Pushing Brilliance. The reason I smiled is because the book is written by the author. A nice little touch that only fans would pick up on. I do recommend Pushing Brilliance, you can read my review here. (Look for the cover in the header of this post 🙂 )

Another original thriller by one of my favorite authors. The Price of Time is sure to please Tim Tigner fans, old and new. I recommend this one to those of you who like unexpected plot twists mixed with the intrigue and mystery of a good thriller.
